Fire Prevention

The 2010 Fire Prevention Week Theme is:

Smoke Alarms: “A Sound You Can Live With!”

The official theme for Fire Prevention Week (FPW) is Smoke Alarms: A Sound You Can Live With.  The Southeast Volunteer Fire Department, as well as all fire departments, observe the month of October for public education and safety.  The week of October 3-9 most departments will be doing the educational events at schools, daycares or other community events.

This year’s campaign is designed to educate people about the importance of smoke alarms and encourages everyone to take the steps necessary to update and maintain their home smoke alarm for protection of life as well as property.

The Southeast Volunteer Fire Departments Public Fire Education contact is Pablo Castellano, who is strongly committed to education and fire safety within the community.  He started his fire education in the community last year, October 2009, as Safety the Clown.  He was the instructor and speaker at the local elementary and churches in the South Belt area.

Outreach Programs:  The Public Fire Education program is not only fire safety related issues within the community but also entails station tours with educational programs.  It is also personal and family safety issues with the community as the issues arise in diverse areas.  The diverse community served may need educational material to handle bullies in school or even prevention of falls for older adults.
